In September 2023, lead mosaic artist Denise Torrance administered the creation and installation of the Chapter 6 Mosaic Map. Custom built for the Rare Roots Hospitality Group’s new restaurant in Charlotte’s South End, the mosaic displays and celebrates the cultures and communities influencing its cuisine. We utilized native stone and found material to represent the unique topographies of Spain, France, Italy, Western Sahara, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia . Other local materials used include river rocks from Sugar Creek and weathered stone, seashells, and broken pre- and post-colonial Native American, and colonial Old English pottery found on the shores of Wilmington, NC. Thank you the Chapter 6 community for your guidance, collaboration, and donation of materials!
Along with the Mosaic, our studio also fabricated abstract Copper Sculptures, which frame a large, hand-woven rug from Morocco.
